About Us
Choral singing is as challenging, demanding and ultimately as rewarding as any other leisure activity. It is possible to reach extremely high standards with hard work. Membership is free and the choir is an all adult group of various ages from 18 upwards. We sing mainstream European choral music, and contemporary church music, with organ or unaccompanied. For the major feasts of Easter and Christmas, our repertoire includes Music by classical composors, including choruses from the Messiah and other well known pieces in four part harmony. This type of singing is extremely rewarding for the singers and listeners alike. WE currently have vacancies in all section of the choir, high and low voice types.
Our programme follows the Church Calendar, and at any one time the choir may have up to sixty pieces of music, short or long, in repertoire. Unlike choral societies, church choirs sing in public every week and it is important to have variety and balance in the music we use. It needs to be appealing, relevant and to have a spiritual dimension which enhances rather than takes over the celebrations of the day.
We sing on Sundays at 11 a.m., from September to June, and also over Christmas and especially at Holy Week and Easter time. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays in the vestry of Bride Street Church, from 7.30 - 9 pm and are directed by Choirmaster Ger Lawlor who works hard to maintain a balance between work and enjoyment. In addition to singing in Bride Street Church, the Choir has appeared on TV, Radio and was one of the principal participants in the ‘Carols from Wexford’ CD which has sold over 2500 copies to date.
